MILWAUKEE MAKEOVER PROJECT

E-mail Print PDF

JUN 26 Saturday >> DESIGN CHARRETTE: THE MILWAUKEE MAKEOVER PROJECT

10:00am - 3:00pm
SARUP | 2131 E. Hartford Ave.
| Milwaukee, WI 53211

Project Synopsis:

The Milwaukee Makeover Project is a proposed partnership effort by the Milwaukee Healthy Neighborhoods Initiative (HNI), NIDC, participating lenders, and architects to connect design professionals to homeowners and promote high quality exterior improvements.

This is a unique effort aimed at modest Milwaukee homes, many built in the 1950s and 1960s that while serviceable, often lack visual appeal. By encouraging strong design and high quality standard setting improvements, HNI hopes to stimulate greater reinvestment by additional homeowners as they seek to improve their homes.

The Milwaukee Makeover Project is seeking high quality improvements - developed in consultation with a design professional - that will set a new standard and stimulate improvements by other homeowners. With the resources and capacity currently available to the Milwaukee Healthy Neighborhoods Initiative, it is anticipated that up to 50 properties in the nine MHNI neighborhoods will participate in this effort.

Responsibilities of Selected Architects:

>Provide consultation for one participating property. Architects and designers from the same firm may work in tandem or on separate properties.

>Conduct a site visit with participant at the start of the Saturday Charrette (tentatively set for June 26th, transportation arranged by HNI staff).

>Return from site visit for Saturday Charrette at the Greater Milwaukee Foundation. Media may be present at this event. Architects and designers will work with the homeowner to identify an appropriate design solution. Charrette will conclude with a reception.

>Prepare a sketch/rendering with details on proposed improvements, recommended improvements, and a cost estimate. Provide the above materials to the Milwaukee Healthy Neighborhoods Initiative to distribute to homeowners.

>Prepare a 24”x36” PDF layout (to be plotted as a display board) showing both the existing home and the proposed design solution.

>Attend an Open House (date to be determined) for the unveiling of display boards and celebrate with homeowners, HNI, the media, the City of Milwaukee, and the Greater Milwaukee Foundation.
